What a night it was! The Swiss Club of WA welcomed over 120 people for the Swiss National Day Celebrations in Gidgegannup. If you missed out - join us next year.

Over 100 people visited our Rolling Green property in Gidgegannup for the annual Swiss national Day celebration. A beautiful winters day ensured that people were able to have a stroll around the 25 acre property and experience the best of the Australian bush. At,  Jean-Pierre from Antoine’s Prime Meats in Rivervale cranked up the BBQ and soon the smell of grilled steak had everyone queue up for the food. People were treated to a filet steak, a Cervelat and Bratwurst and a healthy salad buffet. As dusk approached, the bonfire was lit and people congregated around the warmth of the fire and the Swiss National Anthem was sung, lead by Richard Mayer. The children had fun with Lampions and one could have really thought we were in Switzerland at one of the many celebrations that take place.

A sumptuous dessert buffet including tea and coffee awaited as the first burst of the bonfire died down and singing continued inside the shed. A lot of people opted to camp on the property and celebrations continued long into the night around the warmth of the remnants of the bonfire. A joint effort the next day ensured that thing were put back in order by midday and everyone enjoyed a lovely leftover lunch. The organising committee wishes to thank the many helpers that make the event possible, our reward is to see the many happy and satisfied people that enjoy this special event.

Fondue Night

Many Fondue pans arrived at the same time which made it quite diffiicutl to remember for how many people was this one again, and to which table does this pan belong to?

The kitchen was very busy and we all tried our best to get the fondues out as fast a possible,.. there were up to 5 fondues cooking at the same time...

After the “storm” was over, the team could sit and enjoy a fondue, it was a wonderful cheese mix, on our table we got many complements for it.

It was wonderful to see so many young people and families attending. Judging from the noise level, laughter and chatting it was a very successful event.

Thank you all for attending and contributing to the successful event. So many of you were helping with cleaning up, which is alway highly appreciated.

Thanks again to the Fondue –Team, you all did a marvellous job.

Almost two hundred guests enjoyed this year’s Metzgete which was held on

May 10 2014.

The Swiss Club was invited by the Austria club and the menu was adjusted to accommodate our Swiss wishes. We were very well looked after and the feedback about the catering was: “very good, tender meet, very tasty, delicious, very generous....”. Coffee and cake were in such high demand that the kitchen sold out all their sweet treats.

Favourable “coincidences” made it possible to contract the band FRISCO for the evening as all their other dates were booked for the year.  The band was inspirational, taking the older participants back to their younger years and hypnotising the rest with their toe-tapping rhythms and upbeat grooves.

The “Alphornblaeser” were also well anticipated and very entertaining. What can be more Swiss then the unique sound of these big wooden-horns! If we closed our eyes we could imagine the sounds reflected on rock faces and transported from one mountain to the next in the wonderful Swiss Alps.

Our next event promises to be equally entertaining and we are anticipating a great turn out. Imagine an overcast, cold, rainy (or snow-white) winters’ day outside and you’re in a warm, cosy chalet with a wood fire crackling away in the fire-place. Now also imagine you’re sitting around a rustic wooden table with family and friends, enjoying the hot, melted cheese of a fondue, a glass white wine or Kirsch at your hand and a fruit salad as desert. This will warm both body and soul!

What more can you wish for? Hence we are inviting you to join us for a home-made fondue in the North Perth Bowling Club on the 21 June 2014.
